Certificate in Groupwork
(A series of individual short courses which, when combined, result in a Certificate in Groupwork)

These workshops have been developed in response to the ongoing and increasing need for understanding and skills for working in groups and teams.

Each workshop may also be taken as a separate course and together lead to the Gestalt Centre’s Certificate in Groupwork.

To be eligible for the Certificate participants must attend at least two of the two day workshops; at least one of the one day workshops and the Group Facilitation course. It is not necessary to complete the workshops in a particular order. It may well be that one particular workshop is more relevant than another for your professional development at a certain time.

For those wishing to receive the certificate there will be one piece of written work to be completed after attendance and participation in the workshops.

What you will get from the workshops:

  • You will develop your understanding about how groups function; patterns of interactions; stages of development and roles taken up in groups.
  • a grounding in gestalt theory, systems theory and relevant psychodynamic theory.
  • Gain skills in groupwork facilitation; review and develop yourleadership style and effectiveness.
  • Increased individual awareness of how you function and interact and the impact you have in groups.

Are these courses for you?

Yes! They will be relevant and helpful for anyone who works with or facilitates groups, and those who work in teams. Including amongst others:

  • managers, HR staff, team leaders, project managers
  • teachers, probation officers, those working in the NHS, GPs
  • management consultants
  • voluntary sector workers
  • psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists

Workshop method:

The workshops will be stimulating, participative and experiential with theoretical input and are an opportunity to share and learn with colleagues from different disciplines. There will be structured exercises, discussion and space to relate the learning to your particular group context.

Centrally the workshops will help you to develop your confidence, creativity and skills to engage with the challenging, changing group context in which you work.

The Tutor:

Michael Ellis MA, UKCP Registered, BACP Registered practitioner, is a psychotherapist, consultant and trainer with twenty years experience of working with groups and consulting to teams in various settings particularly in the public and voluntary sector.
