The counsellors in this directory are professionally qualified with a Diploma in Counselling. All are members of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) working in accordance with its Codes of Ethics and Practice, which includes commitment to client confidentiality and continuing professional and personal development. All BACP members are subject to its Complaints Procedure. Counsellors are covered by professional indemnity insurance and work under regular supervision.

Vivienne Barnett

Vivienne draws on Gestalt as her philosophy for living and personal growth.    Counselling since 1994, Vivienne enjoys what for her is the “common sense” approach of Gestalt and its capacity to offer both challenge and compassion in a non-judgmental environment.

She is interested in enabling those who may feel they are lacking in direction, to explore how they might create a better way of being in the world.   She has particular experience of working with depression and anxiety/panic.

Dean Addams

Dean is a BACP Accredited Counsellor and a UKRC Registered Practitioner.

As well as individual work, he also works with couples and facilitates both experiential and support groups near Kennington Station SE17 3JT and Kingston KT2 7lH.

Dean has experience and training in working with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and related issues such as sexuality, shame, self-harm, addictions, anger and self-esteem. He completed his supervisor's practicum with Gaie Houstong and offers supervision to trainee and qualified counsellors.

Dean offers both long and short-term counselling on a sliding scale.

Judy Heissig

Judy provides counselling in North London. She previously trained in Psychology and Management, then Person-Centred Counselling and Groupwork at City University before completing her Gestalt Diploma. She brings an in-depth personal experience of mental health issues, as well as many years working in an NHS psychotherapeutic setting.

Having lived abroad for many years she has a deep interest in cultural diversity, issues of belonging and inclusion/exclusion.

Judy is particularly interested in women's issues and her holistic, compassionate, intuitive approach helps support the awareness and integration needed to make choices and changes which can enrich life and give it value.

Celia Goldie

Celia has been in practice since 1994, having gained her Counselling Diploma at West Kent College and undertaken three years training in psychotherapy at the Gestalt Centre, London.She has a diploma in Working with Survivors of Childhood Abuse, and certificates in Couples Therapy, and Somatic Trauma Therapy.

She is particularly interested in the spiritual aspects of both Gestalt and the Person Centered approach. Her practice is in Horsham, W. Sussex.

David Hawley

David (BACP Snr Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist) is a founder member of the Gestalt Centre Counsellors.

Originally from a business/financial background, David has trained in both Gestalt counselling and humanistic psychotherapy, and has been a full time therapist for over 12 years. His particular interests are: relationships, work related issues, anger, abuse, sexuality/sexual identity and gender identity.

Emily Holt

Emily has three years experience of working with people affected by drug and alcohol misuse in rehabilitation programmes, prisons and community centres. She has a Diploma in Counselling from The Gestalt Centre and offers individual counselling as well as couple and group work.

Emily is currently employed by two separate drugs agencies to provide counselling for families and young people. She has developed particular skills in exploring depression, anxiety, self-harm, post-traumatic stress and relationship difficulties.

Helen Hayes

Helen is a BACP Accredited counsellor, UKRC Registered Independent Counsellor, and UKCP Registered Psychotherapist. She has a Diploma in Counselling from the Gestalt Centre and an MA in Existential Psychotherapy.

After working for several years in the voluntary sector with survivors of trauma, abuse and violence, Helen currently works in primary care, as well as in private practice.

She has also tutored on a number of counselling courses. Helen in interested in integrating the insights of existential thinking with the creativity and spontaneity of Gestalt practice. Helen practices at the Gestalt Centre (EC2), in Walthamstow (E17) and in West Kensington (W14)

Maggie O'Neill

Maggie became interested in gestalt counselling in 1989 and followed this up by training at the Gestalt Centre, London. She holds a BACP accredited diploma for gestalt counselling.

Since graduating she has worked with clients from a wide range of backgrounds. Her experience in counselling includes depression, self esteem issues, alcohol misuse, self-harm, anger management, relationship difficulties and bereavement.

Louise Whitehead BSc (Hons) Dip C

Louise is a member of the BACP as a Gestalt Counsellor holding a degree in psychology.

Her background is in gestalt therapy, occupational therapy, shiatsu and reflexology.She believes in the healing which comes from the therapeutic relationship. Her interest and experience lies with people who experience problems in life with anxiety, breathing, depression, anger, loss, low self-esteem and relationship problems.

Peter Mierkowski

Peter is a Psychologist and BACP Accredited Counsellor with over 12 years experience of working therapeutically with individuals and couples. He is a graduate of the Gestalt Centre, currently in the final phase of their MA Psychotherapy.

Peter has worked extensively with people from diverse cultures and social backgrounds, and sexualities. His particular interest lies in attending to the ways we relate to others and events in our lives. His emphasis is on increasing awareness of the present experience and capacity for intimate contact.

Julie Andrews

Julie qualified in 1993 and has a lot of energy for her work.

She offers one to one counselling, freelance training and works in a corporate setting. She holds workshops at the City Lit facilitating 'Working with Anger' and 'Maximising Performance under Pressure'. She has had a general practice in the city for many years and is experienced in working with high achievers, stress, loss and burn-out.

Her previous work experiences involved bereavement and pregnancy counselling. She believes that most people benefit from a session of counselling.

Jon Blend MBACP

Jon is a BUPA Affiliated Counsellor and a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist. His background includes over twenty years NHS experience in social work and counselling.

Jon has also trained in child and adolescent therapy and is invloved in the training and supervision of other health clinicians.

He is resident musician with Playback South - a therapeutic theatre company. Jon is particularly interested in the links between creative expression and healing; also relationships, step-families, stress and trauma. Lynn Dowsett

Lynn completed her Diploma in 1999 and is a BACP Accredited Counsellor. She is continuing her studies at the Gestalt Centre through psychotherapy training.

Lynn has many years experience in social welfare and is currently counselling people with health related problems and aims to provide a safe, supportive space in which experiment and exploration can take place.

Robert Burgess

Robert is a BACP Accredited therapist and he has particular experience of working with depression, relationship problems, work related stress, low self-esteem and bereavement. Robert offers long-term and short-term counselling at The Gestalt Centre, London and at Hackney (E9).

His fees are negotiable according to circumstances.

Before becoming a counsellor Robert studied engineering and worked in publishing, photography and art. As well as private practice, he worksas a counselling consultant in a human resources firm and has worked in King's College Hospital counselling team. Lucy Cope MBACP

Lucy is a BACP Accredited Counsellor with a Diploma in Counselling from the Gestalt Centre. Previously she was an international hockey player, gained a BA honours degree in Geography and worked for Unilever in their Human Resources team.

Lucy now offers individual short and long term counselling at the Gestalt Centre. She works with a wide range of clients, whilst having especial interest in the stressful twenty first century work culture, major life changes, sport and M.E/ Chronic Fatigue. She hopes to support people to unlock their own resources and live more fully and comfortably with themselves.

Henrietta Hutton-Potts

Henrietta uses a holistic approach to understand and engage mind, feelings and body. She is BACP member and trained at the Gestalt Centre.

Henri has experience working with a cross section of clients, in particular students and young professionals. She works with clients who have been bereaved, lost focus, addiction concerns and self esteem issues. She believes in adapting her experience and skills to each client's needs to increase their self awareness.

Terry Browning

Terry completed the BACP-accredited Diploma in Counselling at the Gestalt Centre, London. He holds an Honours Degree in Mental Health Social Work and is a Registered Social Worker with over 20 years experience.

He works part-time in the NHS in mental health and has a wide range of experience in working with depression, trauma, loss and bereavement, including working as a counsellor in a GP surgery.

He is especially interested in self-esteem, discrimination and sexuality issues, along with self-development.

Sarah Horsfall

Sarah offers short/long term counselling for individuals in Old Street and Stoke Newington.

After several years' experience in the Co-counselling community and as a Samaritan volunteer, Sarah trained as a counsellor at the Gestalt Centre London. She has worked as a counsellor with Camden Family Counselling Service and for the NHS at a GP's surgery in Islington, counselling a wide range of people.

Sarah believes that, given the right support, everyone has the innate tendency to move towards growth and health. She travels alongside the client as they explore and make sense of the issues and relationships in their life.

Peter Cartwright

Peter trained at the Gestalt Centre London and now counsels people in south east London, both prviately and at a GP's surgery. He has much experience of working with individuals facing a diverse range of difficulties, through both short and long term counselling.

Peter believes he helps people by enabling them to develop the self-awareness and inner resources they need to create a life more to their choosing.

Peter also works as a trainer in the drugs and social care fields, and as a group facilitator. Previously he worked in prison education and project management.

Nancy Hine

Nancy has a holistic approach to her work, recognising that each individual is unique and has their own way of experiencing the world.

She works with adults and young people aged 16 and over. She has particular experience of working with clients dealing with depression, relationship problems, and health related issues such as infertility and ME. She is also interested in working with those seeking to explore their sense of identity and spiritual nature.

Stephen Robling

Vicky Eugenio

Vicky is a BACP Accredited Counsellor with over ten years experience and is currently in the final stages of the Gestalt Centre MA in Psychotherapy.

She studied and worked as a General Practitioner in Argentina before starting her counselling/psychotherapy training in UK. Since then, she has worked extensively as a counsellor for a variety of organisations as well as running a private practice.
