Gestalt is
a German word, which is difficult to translate,
but in concept, means whole or complete. We regard the individual as a
totality of mind, body, emotions and spirit who experiences reality in
a way unique to themselves. In therapy and counselling we seek to resolve
internal conflict thus releasing energy to flow into richer contact with
self and others. Quality and richness of life are enhanced as the person
lives authentically, embracing the full range of human experience.
In gestalt therapy we are interested in:
- The organism-as-a-whole, or unity of mind, body, emotions and spirit
- The nature of the relationship between a person and his or her world
- Working with internal conflict and resolving unfinished business
- Recognising the unique reality which each person experiences
